Interacts directly with pediatric patients, families and other health team members and facilitates age-appropriate interactions and activities to help make the health care experience easier for patients and families. Reduces patient and family distress, increases effective patient and family coping, fosters patient independence, and promotes optimum development. Provides supervision to volunteers, child life pre-internship students and child life assistants. Pay Rate: Based on Experience. Shift Details: 40 hours (10 hour shifts) Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. No weekends or evenings. This position will be part of the Dialysis Clinic and Kidney Transplant Team. Department: Primary Children's Hospital Child Life. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, documentation of a successfully completed 600-hour internship supervised by a Child Life Specialist, Child Life Certification from Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) or eligible for certification within 15 months of hire, experience with pediatric patients in medical, hospital or behavioral health settings, experience in Child Life Core Competencies including supportive relationships, meeting needs of child and family, education and communication, coping support, therapeutic play, assessment and documentation, computer experience. Essential Functions: Assess, prioritize, and document pediatric patient and family care; develop and evaluate pediatric patient and family centered health care plans; provide education, procedural preparation, coping support, comfort management, and play opportunities; participate in selection, supervision, and training of new hires, students and volunteers; provide education for staff; assist with community outreach and Foundation partnerships; adhere to ACLP Child Life Code of Ethics; meet department expectations. Preferred Qualifications: Masters Degree preferred, Registered Behavior Technician or Behavioral Health Experience preferred, experience with Autism and related disabilities or behavioral challenges preferred, one year experience with pediatric patients, work experience as child life assistant or pre-internship/practicum student, supervising volunteers, Spanish speaking. Physical Requirements: Frequent verbal communication and hearing, ability to see and read information, manual dexterity for equipment use, ability to lift and transfer patients and supplies, ability to stand for extended periods.
