Laboratory Assistant / Specimen Processor

Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday | 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Starting Pay: $17.20/hour

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to perform routine lab support functions with precision and efficiency. This position plays a vital role in assisting lab professionals and ensuring seamless laboratory operations-particularly in specimen processing and preparation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Receive, sort, and log incoming specimens

• Prepare specimens for testing: aliquot samples, prepare slides, inoculate media, and perform clot/fibrin checks

• Build test worklists and retrieve samples from storage

• Perform centrifugation and print specimen labels

• Conduct basic instrument maintenance and prepare reagents/media

• Maintain accurate records, including temperature logs and QA/QC documentation

• Investigate pending lists and locate missing samples

• Decontaminate work areas and perform weekly radioactive wipe tests

• Change gas cylinders and follow all PPE and safety protocols

• Dispose of biohazardous materials per safety guidelines

• Use laboratory computer systems and PCs for data tracking

• Complete all required training and competency evaluations

Qualifications:

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• Medical assistant training a plus

• Background in math and science preferred

Experience:

• No prior experience required-training provided

Skills & Attributes:

• Strong multitasking and prioritization skills

• Ability to retain detailed procedures and protocols

• Professional and respectful communication with team members and other departments

• Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized workspace

Additional Notes:

• Sample preparation includes testing and banking (storing) urine samples

• Flexibility in scheduling is a must to meet operational needs
