Overview
Seeking a network engineer with strong DevOps skills to automate operational tasks using tools like Ansible, Terraform, and Docker. This role combines deep networking knowledge with scripting to build scalable automation solutions, enhance CI/CD workflows, and improve network monitoring. Ideal candidates are passionate about streamlining processes and adopting emerging technologies such as SD-WAN, Cisco ACI, and DNAC.
Responsibilities
Agile project planning
Ansible Playbook Development In support of network engineering automation projects & tasks
Expand and maintain the networking environment as necessary by establishing system configurations, defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards.
Plan, test, and implement upgrades to network equipment.
Establish configuration standards, as well as configure routing, and switching equipment.
Maximizes network performance, troubleshoot network problems and outages, schedule upgrades
Develop project plan/scope/schedule/cost/communications
Risk, Issue and Change management
Lead, guide and mentor less experienced staff
Apply engineering principles into the design and enhancement of new and existing systems
Document new system components, or modifications to existing components
Ensure the security and integrity of systems and product solutions including compliance with Navy Federal’s Information Security principles and practices
Perform engineering tasks and assignments in support of business needs
Perform engineering technology research, procurement, deployment, and configuration
Provide technical leadership in architecture discipline and development
Present clear, organized and concise information to all audiences through a variety of media to enable effective business decisions
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
Hands-on experience with Ansible for configuration management and automation
Proven expertise in network automation tools and practices
Familiarity with DevOps methodologies and toolchains
Strong understanding of LAN/WAN routing and switching
Experience in network design, implementation, and troubleshooting
Proficiency in network hardware configuration
Knowledge of firewalls, load balancers, and network access control solutions
Demonstrated ability to manage and contribute to technical projects
Experience working collaboratively within cross-functional teams to meet shared goals
Capable of working independently with minimal supervision
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to mentor and guide junior team members, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing
Desired Qualifications
CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) – strong understanding of enterprise networking concepts
CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) in one or more tracks such as Routing & Switching, Data Center, or Security
Proficiency with Ansible for network and infrastructure automation
Experience with Python for scripting and automating network tasks
Familiarity with network automation platforms and frameworks
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM (On-call rotation required)
